Biography

John Scarbrough has been a faculty member at AdventHealth University since 2010 where he teaches courses in the biological sciences and advises premedical students. His current teaching assignments are in the Health and Biomedical Sciences Department and include courses in anatomy and physiology, histology and cell biology. Dr. Scarbrough’s educational background incorporated the fields of ecology, marine biology, and genetics and he earned his PhD in Biology from Loma Linda University in 2004. Dr. Scarbrough has a strong interest in the study of crustaceans and his doctoral research focused on the description of genetic structure within the pelagic deep-sea shrimp Acanthephyra curtirostris. Dr. Scarbrough’s current research interests center on using molecular techniques to study aquatic animals (particularly invertebrates) at the organismal level and he has a particular interest in using environmental DNA as a study tool. Dr. Scarbrough is a member of the Ecological Society of America and the Crustacean Society.
