This course is the first trimester of a two-trimester course. Topics include nature of matter, electronic structure, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, chemical bonding, molecular structures, and properties of solutions and gases. Three hours of lecture and one hour of recitation each week. This course satisfies the requirement for a major or minor in chemistry.
Prerequisites: College algebra (MATH 120) or one year of high school chemistry with a minimum grade of C or permission of the department chair.
