CHEM112 Information

Survey of Organic and Biochemistry

This course is an introduction to the fundamental principles of organic and biochemistry. Topics covered will include structure, properties and reactivity to the major classes of organic and bimolecular compounds, with particular reference to hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, organic compounds containing oxygen and nitrogen, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and biochemical processes. A review of the application of these compounds in the chemistry of everyday life will be emphasized. This course is designed for non-science majors, does not satisfy the requirement for a major or minor in chemistry, and cannot be used as a prerequisite for any other chemistry course.
