Healthcare is about restoration: That the sick may be made well; that the healthy will be kept in optimal health, and that the dying may find comfort. At the very core of healthcare is the opportunity to reveal the character of God by the attitude and actions displayed by the caregiver. In the gospel of Luke chapter 10 is the story of the Good Samaritan and is the perfect biblical example of Healthcare as Ministry. At the end of the parable Jesus commissions us to “Go and do the same.” The gospel story is about the healing of humanity—God walking among us, demonstrating what it means to belong to His kingdom. The commission He gives to us is to become His hands that through us, others may experience His touch.
At Adventist University of Health Sciences we believe in faith-based education that prepares students to engage in healthcare as ministry. In defining the ministry of healthcare, the University utilizes the four vision words of Nurture, Excellence, Spirituality, and Stewardship as the framework upon which we operate as educators for the healthcare leaders of the future.
